Scott Whitehead is a business coach with Pro-actions as well as the founder and managing director of digital media agency, Zest City. For more than 15 years, Scott has been coaching and training clients across Essex in how to use digital media to improve their efficiency and he enjoys seeing the diversity of our county. He lives with his wife and daughter in Braintree.
The Audley End Miniature Railway
This is one of those places you find and you share with everyone you know. It starts with a nice drive to get there and then there is a well-worked miniature railway – not one of these short ring journeys, this one goes through tunnels and is a long and interesting route. The scenery includes estate landscaping, interesting floral reefs and watching teddy bear picnics. They also have a cute fairy and elf walk, where you can make your own fairy wand as well – which my daughter loved! Take a picnic and enjoy the view of Audley End gardens in the background. It doesn’t get more British than this!
Located on the London Road in Leigh on Sea, Affinity 1777 has been our choice for birthdays, Mother’s Day and even Christmas, but we don’t just go there for special occasions. We love the big choice on the menus, with a range of styles and flavours to suit all palettes and all ages. If you like Frank Sinatra, crooner Ian Gallagher sings some popular Rat Pack songs in a Sinatra style and there are Abba and Elvis nights too. Jill and Richard also catered for our friend’s wedding reception, which was another great night out!
Cheery Lane Garden Centre, Stisted
Inspired by Audley End’s fairy gardens, I’ve been in the garden more and more and get most of my gardening tools, furniture and plants from Cherry Lane Garden Centre in Stisted. It’s a nicely set out store with interesting displays and a wide range of choice to brighten up and care for the garden, and also some home improvement ideas. The layout makes it easy to get around quickly or browse all day, whichever you prefer!
Colchester Zoo is widely recognised as one of the best zoos in the world and we are so lucky to have it on our doorstep. It’s big enough to not just be a day out, but offers repeat days out and we’ve been gold card members for three years now. Highlights are the otters and penguins, and of course the elephant, safari cats and giraffes. But Colchester Zoo changes often enough that you can go many times and have a different day out each time.
When it comes to music we are spoilt for choice here in Essex! But no band did more for modern dance music than The Prodigy – who started out right here in Braintree. The Prodigy have since gone on to world-wide fame and recognition, always at the cutting edge of dance music. We would love to see them back at V Festival again soon!
