David Bradford lives in Feering with his wife Niki and five-year-old daughter, Angelica. A multi-award-winning wedding photographer, David owns and runs David Michael Photography and his 2016 accolades included being named as the world’s most popular wedding photographer by the Wedding Industry Expert Awards and the Master Photography Awards global award for wedding art fashion.

1. No place like home

Niki and I got married at Leez Priory in Great Leighs in September 2002. At the time, we were living in London and after visiting the venue, we couldn’t get back via the A12. During our detour, we stopped for a drink at the Sun Inn in Feering and I said to Niki, ‘This is lovely, I could live here’. Four months later we had moved out of London and that same pub is now 200 yards from our house.

2. Great place to eat

We love to eat at West Street Vineyard in Coggeshall. There is a wonderful brasserie style menu, served with wines from the vineyard plus a lovely outside eating area. In summer, you can sit and eat on the balcony overlooking the vineyard and we often go for a stroll after we’ve eaten. There’s a play area for children too, which makes it a perfect family outing.

3. Best Essex place to visit

When the sun is out, you’ll often find us at Hipkins beach, which is in Walton on the Naze. There is a kiosk to buy ice-creams and miles of beautiful and clean sandy beach, which is great for paddling and making sandcastles. It’s the perfect place to make memories with my daughter and we’re planning to buy a beach hut this year if we can find one.

4. Favourite Essex wedding venue

The nature of my work means I get to see a lot of wedding venues, but Hedingham Castle is my favourite by far. The Norman Keep, the Great Hall in the Mansion House and the amazing gardens surrounding the venue ensure that whatever the season, there is an incredible backdrop to experience and photograph.

5. Top place to shop

When I’m not working, we like to combine shopping with some family time, and Colchester is perfect. There’s a great range of shops and restaurants, space for Angelica to play in the Castle Park and lots of historical sites and museums right in the town centre. I’m really pleased to see Colchester Castle being used as a wedding venue now too. It’s a fantastic setting and I’m looking forward to working there.
