My favourite Essex place to visit…
Stoke by Nayland Golf Club
Whenever I have the time, I love to play golf and the course and facilities at Stoke by Nayland Golf Club are exceptional. I’m also a member at Frinton Golf Club, which has the only links course in Essex. We are so lucky to have such an amazing variety and standard of golf clubs throughout the county.
My favourite Essex restaurant…
We’ve been visiting Milsoms restaurant in Dedham for many years and it never disappoints. There are always traditional dishes on the menu, like liver with mash and fried onions, all with some lovely seasonal vegetables and healthier options too, which Val loves. We always recommend Milsoms to anyone visiting the area.
My favourite Essex memory…
Clacton Air Show
We never miss the Clacton Air Show and we’ve been fortunate enough to see Lancasters, Spitfires and even a Vulcan Bomber last year. Usually we make a day of it and watch from the promenade, but on the odd year I get to watch the planes fly over the course while I’m playing golf at Frinton, which is even better!
My favourite Essex theatre…
The Mercury Theatre
Having the wonderful Mercury Theatre on the doorstep is something I never take for granted. We’ve seen some fantastic shows, from panto to classical theatre and musicals, there over the years and without a doubt it’s one of the best theatres in the region. Every production is so professionally staged and produced; it’s like going to London’s West End right here in Colchester.
My favourite Essex fact…
We’re leading entrepreneurs
I like the fact that Essex is such a powerhouse for small businesses. Outside of London we have the best small business economy of anywhere else in the region. People may think of Cambridge as a hub for business, but Essex by comparison is a lively and active place for small businesses and we are proud to be part of it. There is an entrepreneurial spirit here that you don’t find in other parts of the country, with a real ‘can do’ attitude and a willingness to have a go.
