Rupert Gosling, the outgoing High Sheriff of Essex, was joined by 230 invited guests at the annual High Sheriffs Awards ceremony held at The Fennes Estate, Bocking in March. The evening, which was compered by BBC Essex radio presenter Steve Scruton, celebrated the milestone of having distributed 280,000 in grants since the High Sheriffs endowed fund was established in 1997 with grantmaking charitable trust, Essex Community Foundation. The High Sheriff paid tribute to the work, dedication and commitment of voluntary and community organisations working throughout Essex, which are striving to reduce antisocial behaviour and make their communities better places to live. Following the completion of his year in office, Rupert has now passed on the position of the High Sheriff of Essex to Michael Hindmarch.
