Burns Night raises funds for Rochford council charity fund

A number of distinguished guests attended a magnificent Burns Night dinner organised by Cllr Joan Mockford in aid of the Rochford District Council chairmans charity fund, Havens Hospices. The event was hosted by the council chairman Cllr Tony Humphries and his wife, Eunice, at Saxon Hall in Southend where guests were entertained by jazz musicians Digby Fairweather and Tony Compton.
The ceremonial part of the evening was superbly highlighted with the arrival of the traditional haggis, piped in by piper Colin Thomas in full regalia. Guests were treated to an excellent meal which set the scene for the very successful auction and raffle which raised more than 2,000.
