Thanks to the generosity of a local businessman and his family, charities working with vulnerable families in Essex have benefited from donations and grants of more than 100,000. Robert Bartella, founder of the Heritage Leisure Group which includes Pontlands Park Hotel near Chelmsford, established his family-named endowed Charitable Fund in 2003 with help from Essex Community Foundation (ECF), an independent charitable trust which manages funds on behalf of individuals, companies and public agencies.

Since establishing the fund, the Bartella family has held an annual fundraising dinner at Pontlands Park and this years event, which raised 28,000, was also an opportunity for the family to thank guests for their continued support and to celebrate the work of local charities.
