With a family heritage stretching back 95 years, Deal of Kelvedon has a history to be proud of, as well as some very exciting plans for the future

In 1919, Cyril J Deal, a keen motorcyclist, opened a Triumph ‘Motors and Cycles’ dealership in Kelvedon. He knew from the start that he wanted to establish a local business, to forge a relationship with his customers, to become a landmark in the area he loved.

He worked hard and his business flourished. In the first 40 years, Cyril J Deal Railway Garage, as it was then known, developed a loyal customer base and business boomed. Things couldn’t have been better until one fateful night in 1959 when a huge fire-razed his premises to the ground.

After such a devastating blow another man might have resigned himself to his fate and retired, but Cyril was made of sterner stuff; he wanted to leave a legacy, a dynasty if you like. So he rebuilt the showroom on the three-acre site where it still stands today as a testament to the Deal family values of honesty and integrity. And, 95 years later, the business is still in the family with Cyril’s grandson, Robert, at the helm.

Now a thriving business selling new and secondhand cars, Robert is keen to maintain Cyril’s ethos of offering his customers the very best he can. This means having around 35 pre-owned cars on offer at any one time backed up by a fully-equipped workshop offering service and MOT facilities plus a body repair workshop capable of handling everything from a small scratch or dent through to a major accident repair.

Robert is also delighted to have been hand-picked by Great Wall, China’s largest SUV and pickup manufacturer, as one of just 50 UK dealers offering the million-selling Steed range of pickup trucks.

With prices starting at just under £15,000 (plus VAT) the Steed range offers a tough, no-nonsense pickup with an astonishing range of equipment as standard, all backed up by an industry- leading warranty.

All models are a double-cab design seating up to five people and all are fitted with a two-litre turbo-charged diesel engine and on-demand four-wheel-drive, a combination that is sure to keep you moving no matter what the weather.

For the very best in off-road mobility, the Steed also comes with a low-range gearbox for pulling through the toughest conditions, conditions the mid-range Steed Tracker, fitted with chunky off-road tyres as standard, shrugs off especially well.

The Steed can also carry over 1,000kgs in its load space and can tow 2.5 tonnes; but don’t be misled, this tough working vehicle is also luxurious enough to double as a family car. All models come with alloy wheels, electric windows, remote central locking, Category 1 alarm, and double-din Alpine CD player with Bluetooth connectivity. In addition, the newly-revamped Steed features improved ergonomics and better quality materials inside as well as some subtle changes to the exterior.

The entire Steed range comes with Great Wall’s unique six-point promise: a six-year / 125,000 mile mechanical warranty; a six-year anti-perforation warranty; three-year paint warranty; three years of roadside recovery and assistance; inflation-proof fixed-price monthly service payments; and a policy of only invoicing for work previously agreed with the customer.

Robert and his team would be delighted to welcome you to the showroom next to the railway station to demonstrate why the Great Wall Steed is the best value pickup on sale today. Or just to sit down with a cup of tea and have a natter about the old days. Here’s to the next 95 years.
