Top Trend: Country Style
Phil Abrey, furnishing buyer at the Chelmsford Star Co-Operative, has been in the industry for more than 35 years, and recognises a country style trend when he sees one. Phil says: ‘Beds have moved back to the traditional, pocket spring style while memory foam has been replaced with a variety of natural quality fillings including luxury wool cotton.’ However, when it comes to sofas, it’s a completely different story. Phil adds: ‘It’s all quite exciting really, as there are a lot of trends going on at the moment. There is so much choice, and people have a variety of tastes, very much like fashion. For example, G Plan is an established British furniture design company that has a vintage collection, which is inspired by iconic furniture of the 1950s and 1960s. With many vibrant coloured materials, from tonic mustard to marl green, these timeless blends are being purchased by all generations. The young are finding it trendy to go vintage and the older customers remember the styles they liked from the first time round.’
