Extending their home in Goldhanger gave Keri and Gary Phillips the chance to create a new family bathroom that their daughters, Summer and Poppy, just love
WHEN Keri and Gary Phillips extended their charming bungalow in Goldhanger, it provided the perfect opportunity to create a fabulous new family bathroom for their daughters, Summer and Poppy.
'Our previous family bathroom was a little pokey,' recalls Keri, 'and was also situated very close to the front door which made it feel a bit of a public space.'
However, with the extra space provided by their extension, Keri and Gary have been able to provide their two young daughters with a delightful bathroom of their own. The new room provides a lovely relaxing space for Summer and Poppy. It is filled with colour and is now welcoming for the girls and their friends.
'We wanted to provide the girls with a bathroom of their own,' explains Keri, 'as we have recently completed an en suite for ourselves.'
The couple didn't like the position of the room in the house and had long wanted to change things quite radically.
'The old bathroom at the front of the house was never very welcoming.
It was small and with just a couple of wooden units, it seemed cramped,' explains Gary.
The inspiration for the new bathroom was a to create a tempting, tranquil space. With a little help from the girls, Keri chose colours that would make for a peaceful ambience in which to have a long, relaxing soak.
'Gary and I are both really happy with the colours and the fittings in the room,' explains Keri. 'Our plumber was very helpful when it came to advising us on the suite and was able to use new and existing cupboards.
'Although Gary and I love it all, the girls seem to really like the bright-coloured wall and the high ceiling with the spot lights in it. There is nothing that we would really like to add to the room as I much prefer to just keep things simple and not clutter things up.'
And to match the perfect ambience of a relaxing room, the whole family has the ideal toiletries on tap. 'I've been making soap for a while now,' explains Keri, 'and always use it at home. The girls especially love the goats milk and calendula dispersing bath soak which is always on supply in the bathroom.
'The bathroom is primarily for Summer and Poppy to use, although Gary and I do use it from time to time in the evenings when we want to sooth away the stresses and strains of the day.'
