The Style: Handcrafted Hearths

Whether it be traditional or contemporary fireplaces, Lower Barn Farms has a variety of choice including marble and Portugese limestone. The most popular of designs on offer is the Merenta, which is the epitome of handmade British quality. Company director of the Rayleigh showroom, Reece Toscani, says: ‘The Merenta is crafted by the skilled stone masons at J Rotherhams. It is available in five natural stone finishes and there is a choice of more than 5,000 stoves. We have the Merenta on display in our newly refurbished showroom in Rayleigh and with the 2014/2015 heating season fast approaching, we are confident that we will be fitting a great many of these fireplaces in the upcoming months.’

The Style: Traditional and controllable

Colne Stoves is a family-run business based in the North Essex village of Earls Colne. Having traded for more than 30 years, the team has an intense knowledge of stoves and is sure to find something to suit every customer’s needs. Company director, Sam Cook, says: ‘Year after year we sell and install more Clearview and Charnwood fireplaces than any other manufacturer that we deal with. The reason, quite simply, is if you are looking for extremely well made, traditional stoves that offer excellent controllability and superb air wash (the clever bit that keeps the glass clean), then they really are hard to beat.’

Colne Stoves have built a reputation for providing powerful burning, long lasting fireplaces. Sam explains: ‘A high proportion of our customers come to us just on recommendation from other users. Speaking from our own experience, we have a Clearview that has been in our showroom for nearly 25 years and has been alight and working for a good proportion of that time. It is still in fantastic condition and works as well now as it did all those years ago when it was first installed.’

The Style: Perfect Proportions

The Orion Heating team hand pick every fireplace to ensure that it is of the highest standard, including being DEFRA approved. A customer favourite are Heta stoves, a modern Danish model that sit well in every home. Customers to Orion Heating have provided positive feedback, commenting on the immense amount of heat the stove gives off, not to mention the beautiful flame dispersal. Heta stoves are increasing in popularity across Europe. Renowned for their sleek look, they have many useful functions including large ash containers that hold weeks worth of waste and outside connections for a near air-tight operation.

Owner of Orion Heating’s Takeley centre, John Morgan, says: ‘We have sold free standing Heta stoves for many years and know how elegantly they regulate the fire and flame picture. We see this as an excellent choice of stove for many Essex homes given the UK fireplace proportions, multi-fuel grate for wood and coal, plus a clean, stylish, design.’
