The revised proposals show new £25 million leisure centre with gym, 25m swimming pool, sports hall and two squash courts on the Bakers Lane site, with the Cottis Lane site providing multi-level car parking, including electric car charging points and other uses such as retail, offices, boutique cinema and community space to complement the established High Street.

Phasing of the developments will ensure the new Epping Leisure Centre opened before the old sports centre closed.

Other proposals include more than 250 new quality homes built around green spaces on the St John’s Road site, the Conder Building and car park at the Civic Offices, and old sports centre site in Hemnall Street.

The homes would be a mixture of private homes for sale, rental properties and affordable housing.

Leader of Epping Forest District Council, Councillor Chris Whitbread has said fo the scheme: “The aim is to deliver a tremendous boost to the local economy, providing jobs as well as residential, leisure and retail opportunities to local people.

“A vision is being created for Epping that will deliver new housing that is required for the district as well as community facilities, jobs and investment.”
