9 carol concerts and services in Essex this Christmas

Christmassy carol singing and instrumental performances or plays are the perfect way to see in the festive season. Here are 9 great Christmas carol events taking place in your favourite Essex locations
Between December 15 and 23 there will be a number of different carol services and readings from a range of sources including the Girls’ Choir and the Cathedral Choir. There are even a couple of services taking place during the day where you can enjoy a mulled wine and mince pies on your lunch break.
Can you picture a better place for carol singing than this strikingly beautiful Elizabethan gentry house? Neither can we, that’s why we’re thrilled to announce that The Kingsley Choral Group will be performing your favourite Christmas carols on 8 December from 7:30pm. Tickets can be purchased for £6 and there will be mulled wine and mince pies on sale from the Eastbury Kitchen.

Beginning at 7pm on December 13, you’ll be able to enjoy festive performances from the jazz band, soloists, woodwind ensemble and choir. Everyone can join in the festive cheer and help raise some much-needed money for the NHS. A standard adult ticket is £4.
Touted as ‘The Biggest Christmas Musical Extravaganza in Essex’, you’ll be treated to festive music by choirs and a full orchestra while there will also be ballet performances. To see how you compare to the professionals, an audience sing-along will allow you to blast out some Christmas classics. It all begins at 7pm on December 23.
Featuring both new and traditional carols performed by the Lexden Choral Society with CRGS Chamber Choir, for £12 you’ll be able to support a brilliant local church and get yourself into the festive spirit. Beginning at 7pm on December 9, there will be audience participation throughout and a finger buffet after the performance.
Enjoy a real seasonal treat this Christmas as Colchester Castle lowers the drawbridge and opens its doors for free! Immerse yourself in the Christmas atmosphere within the stunning backdrop of the castle’s ancient halls; enjoying a festive sing-song, mince pies and lots of wonderful festive entertainment. The event will take place on December 13 from 3 till 8:30pm.
Copped Hall is surrounded by some of the most breathtaking views that Essex has to offer and they are made only more beautiful during the frosty winter months. This year the Georgian Mansion is opening its doors to host four different Christmas themed carol evenings from groups such as The Copped Hall Choir and the Writtle Singers. Taking place on December 9 and 10, the carols will start at 3pm and tickets will cost £12. There will be mince pies and non-alcoholic punch included with the ticket.
Head to this community pub and celebrate Christmas the old-fashioned way – with a mince pie in hand and in front of a roaring fire. The Southend Festival Chorus will be performing their repertoire of festive hits that will delight the whole family. The event takes place on December 9 from 7pm.
Join singers Jeff and Sue Short and their band of talented musicians for a two-hour show featuring lots of Christmas songs that you’ll be able to sing along to. The show begins at 4pm on December 4 and costs £15.
