Members and customers of the East of England Co-op have voted in their thousands to nominate their county champions in the East of England Co-op's Producer of the Year Awards 2014. More than 3,500 votes were cast online, by post and in-store in the annual awards which celebrate the quality and diversity of more than 130 growers and producers who contribute to the Co-op's Sourced Locally range, bringing locally produced food and drink into co-op stores in Essex, Suffolk and Norfolk.
On February 15, the East of England Co-op revealed this year’s County Champions, who each received more than 1,000 customer votes and now go forward to compete for the title of Producer of the Year. The Essex champion was Rossi Ice Cream from Southend, the artisan producers of ice cream and sorbets.
Kevin Warden, East of England Co-op’s local sourcing manager, said: ‘Congratulations to our county winners and runners-up who have all done an outstanding job in producing great tasting products and meeting customer demand all year round. This year we received more votes than ever, which just goes to show how much our customers value the opportunity to buy local from those dedicated growers and producers who have such a passion for good quality food. We wish all three county winners the best of luck for the final round.’
