Wilkin & Sons latest Tiptree tea room, The Batte-Lay at The Minories in Colchester, had its official opening in January when Sir Bob Russell, the Mayor of Colchester, and guests saw the refurbished tea room for the first time. Peter Wilkin, chairman of Wilkin & Sons, welcomed guests and commented: ‘As a company we have been involved with Colchester for a very long time, so this is an occasion for a celebration.’

Sir Bob Russell unveiled a painting of The Tiptree Cherry Picker by Roy Cleary, which he kindly donated to the new tea room. He commented: ‘It’s a great day for Colchester. Around the world, wherever you go you will find Tiptree jam, so it is good that they are now flying the flag in Colchester.’ Sir Bob added: ‘I think this painting will be perfect for a Tiptree tea room in Colchester, so I am delighted that it will be on permanent display at the Batte-Lay.’
