James Merriott continues his watercolour tour of the county with a visit to Woodham Ferrers, which provides a welcome reminder that spring is on the way

Not to be confused with South Woodham Ferrers down the hill and a short distance away, Woodham Ferrers has a great many beautiful things to satisfy the artist. For this feature, I put together a varied selection of some very beautiful scenes, which gave me enormous pleasure to complete.

At the time I was painting these watercolours, in late December, I appreciated many new daffodil shoots in our garden and I am now admiring them in full bloom — a welcome reminder that spring is very much on the way now.

My wife Joan, without any help from me, has turned our garden into an all year round paradise of colour. From spring until autumn I shall hope to not only be also spending many hours under the parasol in Joan’s beautiful garden.

This then is a very good time to mention that our garden, in addition to our extension gallery with many watercolours, is where we entertain our many visitors.

If you have a spare hour or two, you would be most welcome to join us here to enjoy the garden and browse the gallery. You may well find some of these paintings of lovely Woodham Ferrers on show, but please do let us know in advance that you are coming.
