Archant

James Merriott continues his watercolour tour of the county with a visit a village he has got to know very well and has a great admiration for

I have on countless occasions written my name followed by the initials RA. Not that I have been awarded membership to the Royal Academy but that on every medical form since 1971, I have used the initials to abbreviate the fact that I am affected with rheumatoid arthritis.

Visiting Roxwell for this feature was not only exciting but, as I knew the village so well, it was rewarding that quite simply it was not necessary to walk very far.

ST MICHAELS AND ALL ANGELS CHURCH

Roxwell has an array of beautiful places in the village centre and all these selected scenes were located next to each other. And yet, what a wonderful and varied selection they make.

And my painting style? Well, I tend to stab the paint on with as big a brush as I am able to use.

THE FOUNTAIN

I use Isabey Sable watercolour brushes numbered 2, 6, 8 and 12. I also use a large ‘polishers mop’ type brush for the largest washes. For the record I do paint every day at home, working from my own photographs that I have taken on location.
