Archant

James Merriott continues his watercolour tour of the county counts his blessing on a visit to the beautiful village of Bulphan

I can best describe colourful Bulphan as a village of flowers. Many times during my visits, I have found villagers busy tending flowers, particularly in the churchyards.

THE EAST SIDE
Similar to the front view but revealing more of the oldest part of the property, the far side. Also adding figures gave a different dimension.THE EAST SIDE Similar to the front view but revealing more of the oldest part of the property, the far side. Also adding figures gave a different dimension.

It was not surprising then that I found a group of people in the churchyard when I went to record images for this feature.

GARLESTERS FARM
Standing at this view I met the owner ‘Lorraine’ I was immediately captivated by the beauty of the property and expanse of gardens.GARLESTERS FARM Standing at this view I met the owner ‘Lorraine’ I was immediately captivated by the beauty of the property and expanse of gardens.

This was good fortune for me, as not only was I educated with some church history, but also told of the whereabouts of the fabulous Garlesters Farm.

ST. MARYS CHURCH HALL
Built commemorating the millennium celebrations and harmonising beautifully with the lovely church tower. The figure tending the roses just had to be included.ST. I was excited about going there and upon my arrival I was again fortunate. I found the owner working in her meticulously-kept garden. She was exceptionally nice to me, showing me around her estate and enlightening me with its history.

Then and there I made up my mind to just concentrate on these two properties which I found so incredibly beautiful.

I had no doubts that for January I would complete some of my much-loved snow scenes, although the church I would paint looking at its very best, with the colourful views that I had seen and found so beautiful. It was not just the locations I had chosen, but also the people I had met, that made this feature of Bulphan truly outstanding.
