A dancer from the age of three, Erin Boag left her native New Zealand aged 18 to pursue her dancing career. Just one year after her arrival in the UK in 1996, Erin partnered with Anton Du Beke, creating an exceptional dance relationship that has endured over almost 20 years and has seen the pair win titles across the world.

‘It’s a very special relationship,’ explains Erin.

‘Anton and I have been dancing together for 20 years, which is longer than some marriages. We have a unique chemistry and an intuitive way of working together that comes across in our dancing. This trust and knowing each other so well enables us to read each other and synchronise perfectly. Anton is leading and often makes things up as he goes along, but I can read him well enough to stay in tune; you can only do that when you have a very close working partnership.’

A Strictly Come Dancing favourite, Erin competed in ten series before hanging up her Strictly dance shoes in 2012 to start her family (Ewan, Erin’s son with her husband, businessman Peter O’Dowd, was born in 2014). Her Strictly partners included Julian Clary, Peter Shilton, Rory Bremner and Colin Jackson, with whom she achieved second place in series three, and who she partnered a second time to win the 2009 Christmas Special.

Life after Strictly has been far from sedate for Erin. Just a few months after Ewan’s birth, she was back on the dance floor, partnering Anton in a series of high profile shows and events, judging and taking part in TV shows including Celebrity Mastermind, The Piers Morgan Show, Celebrity Pointless and It Takes Two.

The new show for 2017, Anton & Erin: Swing Time, is Anton and Erin’s 8th national tour together and is set to be their most glittering production yet. The show will feature a dizzying array of dance pieces set to classic tunes including I Could Have Danced All Night, I Got Rhythm and Guys and Dolls with live music from the London Concert Orchestra and vocals from the legendary voice of Strictly’s, Lance Ellington.

‘It’s going to be an incredible show,’ reveals Erin. ‘It’s a big night of song, dance, live music and entertainment to make you laugh and cry, surrounded by glitz, glamour and non-stop entertainment. Uniquely, along with our backing dancers and Lance Allington, we have a huge 25-piece orchestra that travels with us.

‘It’s a huge piece of entertainment to take on tour and it helps that Anton and I know each other so well after all these years of dancing together. Every venue and every stage is different and you have to adapt and improvise as you dance. It means every audience can experience something unique on the night. We also take a break for some audience questions, which is always fun!’

So, what next for the 41-year-old dancer? ‘I will always want to dance,’ she says. ‘It does get harder as you get older, but you also become a better dancer with experience. Being a mum is incredible and when I’m not dancing, I have a passion for renovating properties, so I would love to host a property show one day.
