From 100-year-old classics to the most advanced vehicles rolling onto the road for the very first time, P&A Wood at Great Easton is all about Rolls-Royce and Bentley cars

Established more than 50 years ago by twin brothers Paul and Andrew Wood, P&A Wood have built up a well deserved and much-envied reputation for being one of the most respected and trusted Rolls-Royce and Bentley Motors dealers in the world.

Back at the end of the 1960s, Paul and Andrew, who had been working at Rolls-Royce Hythe Road, in London, started their new business in a barn with a dirt floor in the Essex village of Moreton, while living in a caravan behind.

These days, the extensive P&A Wood site near Dunmow carries a staff of more than 70, including a team of young apprentices who work and learn onsite. The company prides itself not only on the work it does for owners of heritage and classic Rolls-Royces and Bentley motor cars, but also on the demands of some of the most technically up to date and advanced modern cars in the world.

Walk into the Service Reception area on any weekday and there is a steady stream of owners and drivers of very modern vehicles, both Rolls-Royce and Bentley, arriving to have their cars serviced or checked over by skilled technicians. Lorries roll into and out of the yard every day, delivering cars from near and far to be worked on and then taken back home again.

‘Our attention to detail in every aspect of these cars, whether they’re the very oldest and most precious of heritage vehicles or something like the very newest of the Black Badge range from Rolls-Royce, is very important to us,’ explains chairman Paul Wood.

The Great Easton site is home to a beautiful new car showroom, selling the latest models and offering the opportunity for potential buyers to understand the quality they are purchasing through a wide range of samples and computer programmes which allow them to select and design every aspect of the interior and exterior of their vehicle.

Meanwhile, the heritage side of the business goes from strength to strength. These beautiful cars have their own separate showroom and there is a waiting list for restorations. Cars, some more than 100 years old, are being maintained, serviced and restored, all in house at Great Easton.

This year the company had the best possible results at the annual Rolls-Royce Enthusiasts’ Club Rally, with a P&A Wood recently restored Derby Bentley taking the Best of Show prize and many class winner awards at the event.

P&A Wood also welcomes interested visitors. People from four continents dropped in to view the workshops and showrooms on the way to and from this year’s RREC at Burleghy House in Stamford. For them, this site was their number one destination.

Visitors can also visit the shop, an enormous box of delights for every Rolls-Royce and Bentley owner or enthusiast, stocking everything from luxury luggage to logoed T-shirts, gifts and driving gloves. P&A Wood is certainly moving with the times while not leaving the past behind.
