Colchester-based legal recruitment specialist Andrew Porter tells Essex Life about five things he loves about the county

Andrew Porter

Andrew Porter is a director of Origin Legal and has been one of East Anglia’s leading legal recruitment specialists for more than 20 years yet remains highly motivated to provide an unrivalled service to both his clients and candidates. Andrew moved to Colchester back in 1996 and decided to lay down his roots in the county. He enjoys spending time with his family, sport and has a weakness for good Rioja.

1. My favourite place to visit…

Colchester Castle Park on a Sunday afternoon with my family is a pretty perfect spot. The park is truly a Colchester gem and has so much to offer to a young family. The sand pit, boat and trampoline in the play area are big hits with my daughter, while my wife and I enjoy a walk through the gardens in the shadow of the castle. The park is a great combination of busy and yet tranquil, perfect for winding down after a busy week.

2. My favourite restaurant…

Le Talbooth in Dedham is a fantastic restaurant for a special meal out. The food and service is always impeccable and the riverside location is hard to beat. The team are so friendly it makes the experience a pleasure every time. I would be hard pressed to pick a favourite dish, as it is always delicious and leaves me eager to sample more.

3. My favourite inspiration…

My job inspires me – I love it. Recruitment sometimes gets bad press with ruthless recruiters, but it is a privilege to help people progress through their careers. I enjoy the challenge of putting the right candidates and firms together to complete the jigsaw.

4. My favourite Essex event…

The Annual Milsom Hotels Golf Day is a big hit for me as I am a sports fanatic and a really keen golfer, so the day is unmissable. I really enjoy the mix of people and competitiveness. I was delighted to claim the title back in 2014 and hope to string together a good round this year.

5. My favourite Essex activity…

I enjoy the water and in my youth I was a county swimmer and a lifeguard at Wells-next-the-Sea. These days I enjoy family time on the water rather than in it. We have kayaks and often put it on the River Stour for a fantastic fun day in the sunshine.
