An eclectic collection of summer events is to be held at the four-star country house hotel Wivenhoe House, Colchester, in June

Cricket commentating legend Henry Blofeld and rock royal Hugh Cornwell are among the line-up for June at the House, an eclectic collection of summer events to be held at the four-star country house hotel Wivenhoe House, Colchester.

A luxury marquee in the spacious grounds of the hotel will play host to a rock and folk weekend featuring an evening with Henry Blofeld and his commentary box partner Peter Baxter, plus a production of Oscar Wildes Lady Windermeres Fan.

Rock at the House kicks off events on Saturday, June 22 with the headline act of Hugh Cornwell, the original guitarist, singer and main songwriter in The Stranglers. Hugh is joined by an impressive list of performers including nineties power pop rock trio Dodgy and pasta sauce king Loyd Grossman with The New Forbidden.

There is a glittering parade of folk favourites on Sunday, June 23 supporting Show of Hands, who won the Best Duo and Best Original Song in the 2010 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.

Nancy Kerr and James Fagan, one of the most established and respected duos on the scene, share the bill with Eleanor McEvoy and Colvin Quarmby alongside a host of other acclaimed artists.

Cricket fans should make a diary date for Sunday, June 30 when Blofeld and Baxter will be entertaining the audience with tales from Test Match Special and the season culminates the following evening with a professional performance of Lady Windermeres Fan.

Wivenhoe House remains open during the events for accommodation and dining. There will be additional catering options during the events including extended afternoon tea before Blofeld and Baxter and Lady Windermeres Fan and pre-show dining in the contemporary brasserie.
