Judges were looking for the restaurant or eaterie in Essex which has the ability to create an outstanding dining experience, cook to a degree of excellence using fresh, local produce and provide an excellent level of customer.

Grand Trunk Road, South Woodford

Grand Trunk Road provides a classic combination of undisputed knowledge and flavour. Since launching in late 2016, the team have cultivated an unsurpassed reputation for expertly-crafted, sumptuous cuisine, enjoyed in an elegant, welcoming atmosphere. Offering unforgettably fragrant, regional dishes and using traditional cooking methods, Grand Trunk Road is the county’s last word in Indian fine dining.

Haywards, Epping

A unique, family-run, fine-dining restaurant situated in the charming market town of Epping, Haywards uses local and seasonal produce and modern European cooking methods to create elegant and delicious dishes.

Food by John Lawson, Leigh on Sea

Food by John Lawson can be found in the fishing town of Leigh on Sea, perfectly located near the sea for fresh fish and on the edge of the beautiful Essex countryside for fresh, locally-grown produce. Offering guests a food experience, there is no menu! Whatever is in season and delivered from the fisherman or farmer is prepared and presented in the restaurant. After discovering a brain tumour in 2015, life for John had to change. Health and well being is John’s focus now and this echoes through the restaurant.
