Fish and Chips has for a long time been a British staple, the go to meal for Friday nights after work complete with all of your favourite extras from mushy peas to curry sauce. Here are our favourite places to get some scrumptious battered cod and chips

1. West Mersea Oyster Bar, Mersea Island

West Mersea Oyster Bar has been providing the people of Mersea Island with top quality fresh fish and seafood for years. Despite its primary role as an oyster bar they also serve a cracking fish and chips and a stunning selection of fresh seafood. Enjoy a delicious battered fillet of fresh cod with home cut chips, mushy peas and their very own in house tartar sauce all for £10.95.

2. Chris’s Fish & Chips, Rayleigh

Chris’ Fish & Chips Restaurant in Rayleigh is hailed by many of the locals as being one of the best in the area. Serving deliciously crisp, lightly battered fish with large portions of chips there is nothing here not to like. Chris’ is doing so well in fact that it recently opened another branch in Brentwood. All of the food is cooked fresh to order so although there may be a slight wait, it will definitely be worth it.

A family run fish and chip shop in Wickford, Essex where customer service is put first. Sadly, it’s not a sit down restaurant so you’ll have to settle for a takeaway but the portions are large and the prices are fair, what more could you ask for?

4. Fisherman’s Wharf, Southend-on-Sea

Traditional family restaurant the Fisherman’s Wharf can be found on the Southend seafront enjoying spectacular views of the estuary and serving great seafood dishes. The traditional fish and chips off the menu comes with a choice of cod, plaice, haddock or skate all fried in a delicious, golden batter.
