This character-filled former merchant house, which dates back to Tudor times, is situated in a walled garden in the centre of Colchester. It serves luxurious afternoon teas on the traditional three-tier cakestand. There is a selection of sandwiches on the bottom tier, miniature cakes and fancies on the middle tier, and small fruit and plain scones on the top tier served with clotted cream and Tiptree jam. There are also a good selection of loose leaf teas available or you can enjoy it with a cafetiere of coffee.

Jacqueline’s Tea Room, 14 Short Wyre Street, Colchester CO1 1LN

A 1940s inspired vintage tea rooms that servers a simple but varied selection of sweet and savoury dishes, including a wide range of homemade gluten free products. There are also more than 30 loose leaf available.

Poppy’s Victorian Tearooms, 17 Trinity Street. Colchester CO1 1JN

Situated in a 400-year-old building with low ceilings, exposed beams and sloping floors, Poppy’s is a Victorian-inspired tea room that is full of old-world character and charm. Food is locally sourced and includes mouth-watering cakes, sandwiches, paninis and desserts

Centrally located in Sir Isaacs Walk next door to Karen Millen this coffee house has a quirky and vibrant interior, which is welcoming and relaxed.
